STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Official data indicates that Sweden’s industrial activity experienced a 1.5% decrease in June compared to the previous year. The sector also saw a 0.4% drop from May after seasonal adjustments, signaling a subdued month for the nation’s industry. Statistics Sweden published these figures in its June Production Value Index report. The industrial index was at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May, with 2021 serving as the reference base of 100.

Sweden industrial output falls as June orders surge
Sweden’s industrial output fell in June while industrial orders recorded strong gains.

This annual decline follows a revised 7.6% rise in May. Manufacturing output decreased 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying fell sharply by 13.8%. On a month-to-month basis, manufacturing declined by 0.4%, and mining and quarrying dropped by 3.3%. Industry’s weight in the broader private-sector indicator for 2025 is 20.2%. Manufacturing makes up 19.4 percentage points of that share, establishing it as the leading industrial component.

The drop in June did not negate the gains made during the second quarter. The average industrial output from April to June was 4.0% higher than the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted figures also showed a 4.8% increase from the previous three months. Sweden’s overall private-sector output grew by 0.4% from May and 1.8% year-over-year. This broader measure encompasses industry, services, construction, and selected utility sectors.

Weakness in Industry Contrasts with Overall Production Growth

While industrial activity softened, services output dipped 0.2% from May but grew 3.0% from June 2025. Construction production expanded by 2.0% on the month and 7.6% compared to the previous year. The services index was at 111.9 in June, slightly below 112.1 in May. Construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services represented 67.2% of the broader measure, with construction accounting for 8.4%.

Additionally, June figures from Statistics Sweden revealed total industrial orders jumped 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. Year-over-year, orders rose 29.9% on a calendar-adjusted basis. Export orders increased by 56.5% from the previous month and 57.6% from June 2025. Domestic orders saw a marginal rise of 0.1% from May but declined 7.4% annually. From January to June, total orders were 4.0% higher than the same period in 2025, with export orders up 6.6%.

Export Orders Climb Despite Domestic Orders Falling Annually

Transport equipment saw the largest growth among key order categories in June. Orders in that segment surged 101.0% from May and 118.2% from a year earlier. Manufacturing orders increased by 33.2% on the month and 31.2% annually. Orders for capital goods rose 45.5% from May and 50.7% from June 2025. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders declined 1.8% monthly and 19.0% from the previous year.

The reports on production and orders evaluate different aspects of industrial activity. The Production Value Index reflects monthly changes in private-sector goods and services production at constant prices. Meanwhile, the orders series tracks short-term variations in new industrial orders across both domestic and export markets. Future revisions to the preliminary June data may occur as new information becomes available. The upcoming reports are scheduled for September 10 and will cover July 2026.
